What conditions do chiropractors treat?

Chiropractic care addresses mechanical problems: joints that have lost normal movement, nerves irritated by the structures around them, and the muscle and posture patterns that sustain both. The common presentations are back pain, neck pain, sciatica, slipped disc, headaches arising from the upper neck, and joint pain in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip and knee. Conditions such as migraine and scoliosis are assessed and managed rather than treated.

How do I know which condition I have?

Usually not from a website. The same symptom can have different sources: pain travelling down the leg can come from a disc, a spinal joint or a deep hip muscle, and each is managed differently. A symptom description narrows the possibilities to two or three; a physical examination is what settles it.

When should I see a doctor instead of a chiropractor?

Seek medical care the same day for loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness through the saddle area, new or worsening weakness in a limb, pain that began after a significant fall or collision, severe pain accompanied by fever or unexplained weight loss, or dizziness, double vision or slurred speech alongside neck pain. These require a doctor or hospital rather than a chiropractic appointment.

What happens at a first assessment at Aligned?

Accepted Answer

A first assessment runs 60 to 90 minutes: a full history, the five-point Gonstead examination, weight-bearing X-ray analysis where the case calls for it, and a plain-language report of findings that states what was found and what is recommended. The first assessment is RM150 to RM250.
