Radiating pain at the buttock, back of the thigh, or the calf
Numbness at the back of the buttock, back of the thigh, or the calf.
Burning sensation at the back of the buttock, back of the thigh, or the calf.
Pins and needles at the back of the buttock, back of the thigh, or the calf.

What causes Sciatica ?

There are a few causes of sciatica, one of the most common causes of sciatica is the misalignment in the lumbar spine or the pelvis which leads to inflammation that causes swelling along the joint which aggravates or “pinches” the nerves that exit from the spine.

Natural History

Sciatica can start as lower back tightness or soreness which progressively worsen over time. In the majority of the cases, due to the intense pain of sciatica, most often the patient will mistake it as a leg problem because the lower back pain is relatively mild in comparison. Sciatica usually progresses by having discomfort or pain at the buttock which can travel to the back of the thigh, and around the calf. It can either affect either side of the leg or both legs together at once.

Whom does it affect?

Sciatica can affect people of various walks of life and different ages. However, it is very common amongst office workers and people who live a sedentary lifestyle. Excessive sitting and inactivity can increase the amount of load in the lower back and pelvis which could lead to sciatica.
